Today's Blog - November 30

For today's blog, Sarah and I made another Vlog - so that you can see what it takes for us to write out one of my blog posts...  You can view it here:

We also included the text below:

Today, I want to share with you what it is like to spend your whole life
without talking out loud.

It’s frustrating to have thoughts, ideas, feelings that you can only express
when someone thinks to pick up an alphabet board.
Sometimes, waiting is incredibly irritating.
By the time I get a chance to speak, the subject is often changed.

When you are non-verbal, people assume you are stupid.
As if everyone who can speak is always intelligent.

It takes so much patience from me, my family, my friends, for me to communicate.
I wish I could hear myself speak. I wonder what I would sound like.

Singing! I sing in my head all the time.
I wish I could sing with my friends when they are singing Great Big Sea to me.
What a dream - to sing with Sarah and her guitar out in the park.

Celebrating 10 years together

Last week sometime, Sarah and I marked our tenth anniversary together.
We have learned so much from each other.
I wanted to ask Sarah about her experience of being my forever friend.

Question 1
Aleks: what do you like the most about our time together?

Sarah: I have so many favourite things that we do together it is hard to name just one. I really appreciate all the times we have spent journaling and blogging over the years. It has helped me to learn so much about you. I love walking with you while we read our books together. I love going out for sushi, accompanying you to horseback riding....mostly, though, I love being able to totally be myself with you.  Is there one thing that stands out for you?

Aleks:the question was ONE thing...I do love all of those times too! But my favourite is feeling totally accepted even when I am hard to be with.

Question 2
Aleks: why are we still together when you have another job and other friends?

Sarah: because life isn't the same without you.  Because you are part of life. Because you understand me more than anyone else. Because you make me laugh. Because you can call me on my b.s. even when I don't want you too. Because I feel more like myself when we are together.  Why have you stayed in my life for so many years?

Aleks: Because you are my favourite person - even when you are hard to be around. Hahaha.

Question 3

Aleks: what would you change about our dynamic?

Sarah: I wish we could FaceTime or email or talk on the phone when I want to talk to you and get your advice - without our communication needing to be facilitated.  Would you change anything?

Aleks: that you would see yourself the way I do.  It frustrates me when you can't see the awesomeness I see in you.  I like your answer too. To be able to talk to you whenever I wanted would be so good.

Aleks: happy anniversary. Let's make a cake!
